1 Ronaldo record Messi could break this season, should PSG go far in the Champions league
The battle for supremacy between Ronaldo and Messi is expected to rumble on till at least when the two players will retire. The duo have been arguably the greatest player the game has ever witnessed, winning a series of individual and collective awards.
In their career, Ronaldo and Messi has helped push each other because when one achieve something, the other often get motivated to also achieve such. As it stands, Ronaldo is trailing Messi when it comes to the number of Ballon D’or awards won, while Messi is also trailing Ronaldo in other records, like most Champions League won, UCL all-time highest goal scorer, among others. However, having completed a move to PSG, Messi could break a Cristiano Ronaldo’s record should PSG do well in this season’s UCL campaign.
Lionel Messi,, who has been expected to stay back at Barcelona, completed a shocking move to PSG last week after being released by the Spanish club due to La Liga’s rule. He joined the likes of Sergio Ramos, Gini Wijnaldum, Donnarumma, Hakimi Achraf, as the French club’s newest arrivals, as the club seek to end their wait for a UEFA Champions League crown, something which many people will expect them to achieve now that they have Messi.
Although football is not a one-man game, and it will be expected that PSG play as a team before they can win the UCL, but individual brilliance can count sometimes. Paris Saint German is a club blessed with attacking talents however none of them have been able to inspire the club to a UCL glory over the years, as such, Lionel Messi will be expected to play a major role if the club will have any chances of winning that one elusive trophy this season.
As it stands, they seem to have what it takes. They have a good coach in Mauricio Pochetino, they have a well-balanced and good squad to compete too, and should things work together for them, they are one of the favorites to win the UCL this season. What will that mean for Messi? Messi will be expected to contribute goals and should he find his scoring boot early in the competition, he could be set to break one of Ronaldo’s record.
Presently, Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for most goals scored in a single Champions League campaign with 17goals; However, Messi could exceed that with PSG this season considering the fact that goal scoring responsibility might be placed on him. Should he achieve this, then he would break Ronaldo’s record.
