11 clubs that can qualify for the UCL knockout stage on match week five
Champions League football is back this midweek, and a lot of teams will be hoping to wrap up qualification for the round-of-16 after the match week five fixtures.
A total of 4 teams have already secured qualification to the round-of-16, and they will be joined by many others this week.
Below, we will be having a look at 11 teams that can qualify for the Champions League knockout stage during match week five.
1. Manchester City.
Manchester City can qualify for the round-of-16 with a victory in Wednesday’s game against PSG. They will even qualify with a loss if Club Brugge fails to beat RB Leipzig.
2. Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain will also book their place in the round-of-16 with a win on Wednesday. A Club Brugge’s loss to RB Leipzig will also secure their place even if they lose their own game.
3. FC Porto.
Porto can book thier place in the knockout stage with a victory over Liverpool if Atletico Madrid loses the other group game to AC Milan. Any other combination of results will see us wait until the final day before knowing who will join Liverpool in the knockout stage from the group.
4. Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund plays Sporting on match week five, and a victory in that game will see them secure thier place in the round-of-16 through the UEFA head-to-head rules. Ajax has already qualified from Group C.
5. Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will book a place in the knockout stage with a victory over Sheriff Tiraspol on Wednesday.
6. Inter Milan.
Inter Milan will qualify for the knockout stage with a win over Shakhtar Donetsk if Real Madrid defeats Sheriff Tiraspol in the other group game.
A victory over Benfica on Tuesday will secure Barcelona’s place in the knockout stage. This is quite surprising considering how they started their Champions League campaign with back-to-back defeats.
8. Manchester United.
Manchester United can secure qualification from Group F with a victory over Villarreal only if Atalanta fails to defeat Young Boys.
Villarreal can also secure qualification with a victory over Manchester United if Atalanta fails to defeat Young Boys. Any other combination of results will see us wait until the final day before knowing the fate of Group F.
10. Red Bull Salzburg.
Red Bull Salzburg can secure qualification to the knockout stage with a victory over second-place Lille on Tuesday.
Chelsea will secure a place in the knockout stage with a victory over already-qualified Juventus on Tuesday. A draw against the Italian club will also be enough.
