It has been long since we saw an African player winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or award. But that could change in no distant time as some African players are now performing very well and they are proving to be world-class players.
Some African players are becoming very consistent and they are among the early contenders for next year’s Ballon d’Or award. Here are 2 African players who could win the Ballon d’Or award next year.
1 – Mohamed Salah: The Egyptian footballer is clearly a contender of the Ballon d’Or award that will be given to the best male footballer this season. He has proven to be a world-class player and he is performing very well for Liverpool football club this season.
He has scored 10 goals in the premier league already this season and he is now the African player with most goals in the English premier league. He has also scored 5 goals in the Champions league this season after three rounds of matches.
The Liverpool striker has provided five assists for the club this season and he could win the Ballon d’Or award next year if he is consistent for the club. He will take part in the upcoming African Cup Of Nations tournament and he can also increase his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or award if he perform well in the tournament.
2 – Edouard Mendy: The Senegalese goalkeeper has been very impressive for Chelsea football club this season and he was also impressive last season. His performance for the club this season has been very spectacular and he could become the first goal keeper to win the Ballon d’Or award since Lev Yashin did it more than 60 years ago.
The Chelsea goal keeper has kept seven clean sheets already this season in 11 appearances. This is a very incredible rate for the goal keeper and he could contend for next year’s Ballon d’Or award if he continues to perform well like he is doing now.
