Manchester United have enjoyed a successful summer transfer window, even though there are some good players they could possibly speak to in January about a pre-contract agreement, should they fail to agree contract extension with their present clubs.
After an outstanding summer transfer window, the Red Devils are in a better position to fight for the Premier League title this season.
Come the new year, a number of the players performing on the continent will be free to negotiate terms with clubs in the Premier League with the impression of signing a pre-contract agreement.
Here are three players Manchester United should sign in January:
1. Kylian Mbappe, PSG
Mbappe’s future was one of the main talking points throughout the summer transfer window, as Real Madrid reportedly saw a £189 million proposal rejected by Paris Saint-Germain for the France striker.
The decision is a big one from the Paris club, as the Frenchman can negotiate with clubs from January ahead of a conceivable free transfer next summer.
Mbappe would be a good addition for any club in world football, even for Manchester United, who are blessed with a plethora of attacking players. A January move for the Frenchman can’t be ruled out, especially if United can offload Paul Pogba.
2. Declan Rice
The Red Devils did not sign a defensive midfielder in the summer transfer window, this will be an area Manchester United will address in January.
Manchester United could have signed a defensive midfielder to fill the need. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chooses not to make signings for the sake of it unless the situation is desperate.
The evident conclusion from the Red Devils’ decision not to sign a defensive midfielder like Ruben Neves, Saul Niguez or Yves Bissouma, is that the Norwegian is keeping the role for Declan Rice.
Declan Rice is England’s first-choice midfielder and his status grew after a strong performance during the European Championship.
Manchester United will be able to tempt the midfielder, and if the Hammers takes a step backwards on their creditable sixth-placed finish last campaign, the possibility of joining the Premier League giants will look even more impressive. Who would not like to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo?
3. Leon Goretzka
Manchester United were interested in signing Goretzka before the summer transfer window slams shut, as they also have a player who is on the verge of running down his contract in Paul Pogba.
Manchester United should plan on signing the German in January. The Red Devils could also enter into a pre-contract agreement with the defender, which would see him join the Old Trafford outfit on a free transfer next season.
