Manchester United’s last match before the international break ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Everton. After the match, more than 12 Manchester United players jetted off for international duties and so far some of them have appeared for their respective countries. While some of them have had mixed performances, some performed impressively for their countries. Below are five Manchester United players who have performed exceptionally well for their countries in the current round of World Cup Qualifiers and international friendlies:
1. Scott McTominay – Scotland
Scottish defender Scott McTominay started in Scotland’s 3-2 win against Israel in the World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday. Scotland’s first two goals were scored by Aston Villa’s midfielder John McGinn and Lyndon Dykes. However, the match was poised for a 2-all draw when Manchester United’s midfielder Scott McTominay scored a 94th-minute winner to help Scotland get all three points and move a step closer to World Cup qualification.
2. Jadon Sancho – England
English attacker Jadon Sancho performed splendidly as England cruised to an impressive 5-0 win against Andorra. The Manchester United star has had a slow start to his Manchester United career but he didn’t let this deter him as he rewarded Gareth Southgate’s faith in him by providing two assists in the match. The former Borussia Dortmund star was impressive throughout his 72-minute stay on the pitch.
3. Jesse Lingard – England
Jesse Lingard was in action from the start for England as they walloped Andorra 5-0. The Manchester United star started as part of a midfield three and played in a deep role. This reduced his input upfront but he contributed at the back for England, conducting play, circulating possession, and propelling England to a clean sheet.
4. Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal
Although Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance didn’t come in a World Cup Qualifiers, he still makes the list having scored Portugal’s first goal in a 3-0 win over Qatar. It was his 112th international goal and this extended his international goals record. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has had a splendid start with Manchester United since returning to the club in the last transfer window and he has taken this form into the international break.
5. Diogo Dalot – Portugal
The Portuguese right-back also put in a good performance against Qatar, providing the assist that led to Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal. He would be hoping to gather enough momentum for the fight with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for Manchester United’s left-back position.
