The inconstancy of the Video Assistant Referee in this season UEFA Champions League have generated several reactions as a lot of teams were affected with the Referee and the VAR decisions in the match day 4 of Tuesdays UCL match.

It was an entertaining day 4 fixtures as team showed brilliant performance from the beginning to the end. Teams like Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Villarreal and Barcelona continues their impressive form in this season UCL.

Hakim Ziyech’s only goal for Chelsea gave the blues the total victory away fro.hime in their day 4 games. Another outstanding performance from Barcelona new number 10 Fati gave Barcelona the only goal against Dynamo Kyiv.

Bayern Munich defeated Benifica by 5-2 to qualify for next stage of the competition. Robert Lewandowski’s sensational performance gave him his first Hat Trick of the competition.

With the results, let’s take a look at 5 wrong decisions taken by the Referee and the VAR.

Atalanta Vs Manchester United

It was an entertaining match between Atalanta and Manchester United in the UCL match day 4 fixtures. The host started the game on brilliant note by scoring in the first 12 minutes of the game.

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo equalized for his team before the half from break. 2 second half goal by Zapata and Ronaldo changed the score line to a 2-2 draw.

Eric Bailly’s Handball

The Video Assistant Referee and the Referee took a wrong decision after refusing to give Atalanta a penalty despite seeing a clear handball by the Manchester United defender.

Atalanta should have been awarded a penalty because it was a clear handball by the defender.

Zapata’s Offside Goal

Atalanta second goal have should have been cancelled for offside because Duvan Zapata was clearly pictured offside. The highly-rated forward was ahead of the rest of Manchester United defenders but the VAR allowed the goal to stand.

Ansu Fati’s Penalty Claim

Barcelona defeated Dynamo Kyiv by 1-0 away from home. It was a brilliant performance from the Spanish team who just sacked their coach. The Video Assistant Referee’s decision not to give a penalty to Barcelona after Fati was clearly brought down in the box have been heavily criticised.

The Referee refused to award a penalty to Barcelona after the review of he VAR shows that there was a contact between the defender and Fati.

Fati’s Intentional Handball

Fati’s Intentional handball should have generated a straight Red Card for going against the rules of the game. The highly rated star intentionally diverted the position of the ball with his side but was not penalized by the Referee or the VAR.

Sevilla’s Penalty Claim

Another poor penalty decision taken by the VAR and the Referee in Sevilla and Lille match. The home side should have been awarded a penalty in the first half of the game after Jesus was brought down right right inside the box.

Sevilla was denied the penalty despite the VAR review that shows there was contact form the Lille defender.
