Arsenal Should Go After Fiorentina Striker Who Refused A Contract Extension At His Club
By next summer transfer window, the gunners will surely be on the lookout for a new striker, especially if no contract extension is given to France international striker, Alexander Lacazette. England Journalist, Mark Irwin of Sun sports earlier reported that the gunners will be looking at Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as possible replacement for the Frenchman, but I feel the club should go after Fiorentina’s left-footed striker, Dusan Vlahovic.
The gunners were linked with a possible move for the 21-year-old last summer, but according to reports, the inability to ship out Lacazette made it difficult for the recruitment of a new striker.
Given the high press system Mikel Arteta is trying to implement at Arsenal, Dusan is the kind of player which will execute that system excellently. Also, he fits the age profile Arsenal are currently going for (a young player, who has a high resale value if things doesn’t go well or a young player, who will eventually become world-class in the future).
It was expected that the Serbian would extend his contract at Fiorentina, but it seems that will not be happening, as the club’s president came out to say that the contract talks with the player has collapsed. Quoting the president via Fabrizio Romano;
“Vlahovic has not accepted our huge contract extension proposal. We’ve been trying for months, but it’s over”.
Vlahovic is out of contract in June 2023, and the breakdown in contract talks comes as a big opportunity for Arsenal in my opinion. Considering how England players are overpriced, signing Dusan will be a better option in terms of transfer value and what he has to offer to the team. He scores better than Ollie Watkins & Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Also, he has better hold up play, good in the air and links well with his teammates. To add spice to everything, he is left-footed.
