“Buhari Is Working”-These are the Prices For Bags Of Foreign And Local Rice this Year.
Rice is one of the most consumed food in Nigeria. Few years back, Nigerians were one of the highest importers of rice from other countries. However, when the current President i.e Muhammadu Buhari came into power, he made it a priority for Nigeria to start manufacturing it’s rice rather than just importing and depending on other countries.
To achieve his goal, the president shut the borders of the country, and placed a ban on importation of rice. This however led to the scarcity of foreign rice, thereby leading to the rise in the prices of foreign bags of rice. This however made Nigerians to start patronizing locally made rice. Remember he came into power in 2015, now check the prices of bags for both the foreign and locally made rice in each month of this year.
According to the statistics gotten from “Nairametrics”, the price for a bag of foreign rice seem not to have changed, as it was 27,000 naira in January but now 29,000 naira. However, the price for locally made rice seemed to have reduced in February, but increased in May. Since it’s increase in May, the price has been rising.
What are your thoughts on this, what do you think could have been the cause of the recent rise in the price of locally made rice? Please drop a comment below, because i think the president has tried his best.
