Can Ronaldo Overtake Didier Drogba On His EPL Goalscoring Record Before The Season Ends?

2 Players Who Have Scored More Goals Than Ronaldo In 2021 Can Ronaldo Overtake Didier Drogba On His EPL Goalscoring Record Before The Season Ends?

Cristiano Ronaldo made a sensational return to Old Trafford on the deadline day of the summer transfer window in a two-year deal with an option to extend by another year. He left the club in 2009 to Real Madrid before moving to Juventus where he had to terminate his contract with a year left.

The Portugal international has been outstanding in those leagues, winning the golden boot and every trophy associated with the country. He is the only player in the history of football to have won the golden boot in England, Spainand Italy. Many have questioned his return to Manchester United due to the tempo of the league and his age, which they believe might limit his performances.

However, the Portuguese seem to be aging like a fine wine and have already begun the campaign on five goals alongside winning the September Player of the month in both the Premier League and Manchester United. Before Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford, he had 84 Premier League goals and was situated miles away from Chelsea’s fourth-highest goalscorer in the Club’s history; Didier Drogba.

Didier Drogba scored a whopping 104 goals for Chelsea in 254 appearances since joining the club in August 2004. He is regarded as one of the most decorated players in the Premier League and Chelsea Football Club. It took the Ivorian nine(9) seasons to land such several goals while the Portuguese is on his seventh season at the club.

Drogba managed to score 29 goals in the 2009/2010 season which is the highest he had scored during his time at the club while Cristiano Ronaldo had 31 goals in the 2008/2009 season as the highest. However, Ronaldo has taken his tally to 87 goals in 204 appearances at the moment and so needs about 17 goals to be level with the Ivorian.

Such numbers don’t look difficult for the Portuguese judging by his incredible goal-scoring form at the moment. Also, with Ronaldo’s style of play, he doesn’t need to have much of the ball before he slots it into the back of the net. He has developed himself into an effective goal poacher who waits for tap-ins and penalties to improve his tally week in and out. So, surpassing the legendary Drogba this season is more likely to happen.

Also, looking at his history at Real Madrid and Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t scored below 20 league goals for the past seven years and so, therefore, there’s a big chance that he will score over 25 EPL goals at Manchester United before the season runs out. Note also that, Ronaldo doesn’t have a worrisome injury history that one could say might affect his game.

The only challenge Cristiano Ronaldo might face in the course of achieving this task is age. A player’s performance is directly proportional to his/her age and so, he might be poised with the situation where his legs are no longer strong to carry his body but that can only happen maybe in three years or so.

Therefore, with all these reasons above, I strongly believe that Cristiano Ronaldo will overtake Mr. Wembley (Didier Drogba) before the season comes to an end in May. Do you agree to that? if not, kindly state your reasons in the comments section below.
