CHE vs SOU: Is this the best time for Ben Chilwell to break into Chelsea’s first team?

Thomas Tuchel has failed to feature Ben Chilwell in the EPL this season. The reason remains that Marcos Alonso is currently on form and cannot be easily pushed out of the first team.

However, Marcos Alonso really under-performed in Chelsea’s last two games, his low performance also made Chelsea to lose those games.

Against Juventus, Thomas Tuchel substituted Marcos Alonso in the second half and added Ben Chilwell into the game. This English defender pushed attack from the left side, he created some chances which could have helped Lukaku to score but Juventus’ midfield was too strong.

Some fans are not happy with Thomas Tuchel’s decision, it is all clear that Ben Chilwell brings a lot to the team more than Marcos Alonso. Chelsea won the UCL last season and Ben Chilwell made more appearances than Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea will play against Southampton this weekend, they will try to get back to winning ways although it wont be that easy for them.

Marcos Alonso is good in taking free-kicks, he is also an attack-minded defender but Chilwell brings a lot to the team. Chilwell can give crosses which can help Lukaku to score header goals, he is also good in taking corner-kicks.

Defenders like Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva get stressed up whenever they try to cover up for Marcos Alonso. Southampton have a lot of attackers who have pace and dribbles. Some of these attackers are Redmond, Adams and Armstrong.

A defender like Marcos Alonso is not needed, Ben Chilwell has the qualities and capabilities to stop these attackers. He can also link-up with Romelu Lukaku upfront and that connection will bring more goals for Tuchel’s team.
