Chelsea Star Now Has More Assists Than De Bruyne & Fernandes Combined This Season

CHE vs NOR: Chelsea's Strongest XI Without Lukaku, Werner & Pulisic To Face Norwich On Saturday Chelsea Star Now Has More Assists Than De Bruyne & Fernandes Combined This Season

Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea academy graduates ran the show for the European champions on the day. A hattrick from Mason Mount and further goals from Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson Odoi was enough to see off the Premier League bottom boys at Stamford Bridge.

One player who deserves plaudits for that impressive display is Matteo Kovacic. The Croatian midfield maestro was excellent in the middle of the park for the Blues, his dribbling, movements and accurate passing was too much to handle for the opponents.

Kovacic created six chances on the day and got 2 assists for his efforts. He provided the assist for the second goal by Hudson Odoi and set up the fourth goal by Ben Chilwell.

The former Real Madrid midfielder now has more goal contributions after nine games this season than he ever has in a single Premier League campaign. Kovacic has been directly involved in 6 goals already this EPL season (1 goal and 5 assists).

To show you how impressive those numbers are, Kovacic now has more assists than Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne combined. Manchester United’s Portuguese playmaker (Fernandes) has just 2 assists this season, while Manchester City’s talisman (De Bruyne) is yet to record his first assist of the campaign.

Kovacic is justifying the number 8 jersey which he was handed at the beginning of the season. The number 8 is remembered for the achievements of Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

The iconic English midfielder scored 211 goals in his time at Chelsea to establish himself as the club’s record goalscorer in history.

Kovacic’s output from midfield will be very important to Thomas Tuchel’s side if they are to achieve their targets this season. The four-time UEFA Champions League winner is a key member of the squad and will hope to maintain his fine form in the long run as Chelsea aim to compete on all fronts this season.
