Gameweek 6 of the 2021/22 English Premier League season kicks off with a heavyweight clash as Chelsea will play host to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel is set to renew his rivalry with Pep Guardiola in what promises to be an entertaining encounter between two of the favorites for this season’s English Premier League title.
For this match, both teams could be missing a joint total of 8 players through injuries and suspension but it should not dampen the expected excitement which will be on show at the Bridge on Saturday noontime.
Chelsea will be without Christian Pulisic for this game. The American winger is still nursing an ankle injury which he sustained while representing his national team during the last international break in a World Cup qualifying match against Honduras. Meanwhile, Edouard Mendy is a doubt for the match as the Senegalese shot stopper has been out of his team’s previous two games with a hip injury problem.
Manchester City on the other hand face the prospect of playing without six first team players. Spanish center back Aymeric Laporte is out with a groin injury, while John Stones is missing with a persisting muscle injury. Another player who will definitely miss the trip to Stamford Bridge is Benjamin Mendy who is still suspended for charges of rape.
Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all doubts for the match after suffering knocks prior to this encounter.
No matter the starting lineup which is selected by Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola, the match is still going to be and entertaining one to watch as both teams will be looking for victory to consolidate their positions as title favorites. Chelsea currently sit at the top of the Premier League standings, while City are 5th and will equal the Blues on points with a win.
