For the first time this season across all competitions,Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea team conceded more than a single goal in a single game, against David Moyes’ West Ham United team. The Blues who started the London encounter with a lead from Thiago Silva failed to hold onto their lead, conceding three goals to hand them their second Premier League defeat this season.

Goals from Manuel Lanzini, Jarrrod Bowen and Masuaku ditched Chelsea at the London stadium even as goals from Mason Mount and Thiago Silva couldn’t rescue the Blues.

Jorginho’s clumsiness, Edouard Mendy’s overconfidence and Andrea Christensen’s poor defending were some of the factors that led to the defeat at the hands of West Ham United.

Chelsea, who started the day as Premier League leaders, dropped to 3rd on the table after Divock Origi’s 94′ minute winner for Liverpool against Wolverhampton Wanderers,and Manchester City’s 3-1 thumping of Watford at the Vicarage Road.

Apart from the heavy defeat against West Ham United,Edouard Mendy has now failed to keep a Premier League clean sheet for three straight games. His poor run of form began after he conceded a goal from Jadon Sancho at Stamford Bridge in the clash against Manchester United.

With N’Golo Kante,Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic out with injuries,it seems Thomas Tuchel has to step up big time in order to keep his team in the title race, especially as it seems Liverpool and Manchester City are taking advantage of their recent stumbles to close the gap between them.

Notwithstanding their past records, injury concerns and the fact that most Premier League clubs now know their pattern of play could see Chelsea dropping more points in their next five Premier League games.

Chelsea next five Premier League fixtures;

Chelsea Vs Leeds United; 11th December at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea Vs Everton; 16th December at Stamford Bridge

Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs Chelsea; 19th December at the Molineux Stadium

Aston Villa Vs Chelsea; 26th December at the Villa Park

Chelsea Vs Brighton and Hove Albion; 29th December at Stamford Bridge

The fact that the African Cup Of Nations begins in a few weeks time also means that Edouard Mendy won’t be available for at least three of these games,which could be to the disadvantage of Chelsea.

How many points do you think Chelsea will be able to get from a possible 15? Can they maintain their top form given their injury crisis and with AFCON around the corner?
