Fans React To a Post About Messi’s PSG Shirt Number By Goal Africa Page.

The African page of sports news giants Goal.com has caused a stir on Facebook with what fans saw as a “racist” post. Reacting to the news of Lionel Messi’s move to PSG after his contract renewal failed at Barcelona, Goal Africa posted a picture of Lionel Messi’s shirt number at PSG and that of Serge Aurier when he was at the same club.

In the post, the media house said that Lionel Messi will wear the number 30 shirt as opposed to the expected number 19 shirt. However, according to the post, it was alleged that Messi was to choose the number 19 shirt but opted not to when he realized it was previously worn by Serge Aurier.

While they can speculate about possibilities, what fans found baffling is how the page could claim that Messi didn’t wear it because it was previously worn by Aurier. They asked why they decided to put out such a post, saying it is “nonsense”.

Fans could not comprehend what they meant by saying that “Messi didn’t wear it because it was previously worn by Aurier”. What is the colocation between Messi not wearing the number 19 because it was worn by Aurier?

The post even included the flag of Serge Aurier’s country and a laughing emoji. Maybe they are trying to be funny, but they should know that racism is a sensitive issue. In fact, as the African page of Goal, it is unacceptable that they are posting something like that.
