How Real Madrid made a better decision before Barcelona on renovation

Gary Lineker, an English broadcaster, former Barcelona star, and current ambassador of the La Liga Santander recently said that the biggest football brands in the world are Real Madrid and Barcelona. If you check out their fan base, social media followers, and trophy cabinet, you are most likely to agree with the Englishman.

One way that Real Madrid has been able to maintain its status is because of the club’s president, Florentino Perez, who helps the club take good business decisions and puts the club first, always.

One of the best decisions he made was to begin the renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu during the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. Fans couldn’t watch games, and he took advantage of the situation by renovating the pitch during the pandemic since tickets sales weren’t available.

The club played at the Estádio Di Stefano, the youth’s pitch that was criticized by Klopp during a Champions League game. During a recent interview with RAC1, Barcelona’s president revealed that the club will soon embark on renovating the Camp Nou, but it would have been better if they followed Real Madrid’s blueprint earlier.

Just like Real Madrid, they also plan to use the Estádi Johan Cruyff, the youth’s pitch, but the club may lose money now that fans can watch the games. The stadium can accommodate only 6,000 fans compared to Camp Nou’s 99,354.

If the club started its renovation alongside Real Madrid, it would have taken advantage of the times when ticket sales weren’t available. The club is in debt and ticket sales is one of the ways to get back on their feet financially, but they have to forfeit it when they start renovating.

Ticket sales are on now and Real Madrid is back to the Santiago Bernabéu, this would have been Barcelona’s situation if they followed Real Madrid’s blueprint since 2020.
