Lionel Messi names Man Utd as one of the strongest teams in the Champions League
Manchester United are back in the Champions League this season, having qualified for the coveted tournament for the first time in three years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
The group stage did not start well for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with United falling to Swiss minnows Young Boys in the first round.
However, the Reds bounced back in the following round, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring in the 95th minute to give United all three points against Villarreal at the Threatre of Dreams.
Lionel Messi, who recently left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, has named Manchester United as one of the favorites to win the Champions League this season.
“It is true that the focus is on PSG, but there are other very good clubs, such as Chelsea, the Manchester teams (United and City), Real Madrid, who always responds, Inter Milan, and Bayern,” Messi told L’Equipe, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Manchester United host Atalanta in their next group game, with a win needed if they are to progress to the next round of the Champions League for the first time since the 2018/19 season.
The Red Devils are currently 3rd in their group but could top the UCL standings if they win against Atalanta
