The 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League campaign gets underway on Tuesday September 14th, with clubs hoping to go all the way up till the Final set to hold in the month of May 2022.
In the same vein, Old Trafford outfit Manchester United will begin their Champions League campaign with an away trip to Swiss side Young Boys Bern in a Matchday One encounter.
The Red Devils have named their squad for the fixture against Young Boys and there is one notable absentee from the traveling party. United have revealed that Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani will miss their opening Champions League game against Young Boys on Tuesday, due to a minor injury.
Cavani picked up the knock in training in the build-up to last Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford, with Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming that the Uruguay hitman will be out of action for a “week or so”.
But not to worry, the squad has the greatest player of all-time in the person of Cristiano Ronaldo who will cherish the opportunity to inflict damage on the Swiss team. Also included in the squad traveling party are nineteen-year-old Anthony Elanga alongside 21-year-old goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
The match against Young Boys Bern will be Ronaldo’s first Champions League trip with the Red Devils since he played in the 2009 Final against Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, where they lost 2-0 to the Catalans.
