Man United vs Leeds Team News: Jadon Sancho Set for Debut, Firpo Injury Updates
The Red Devils kick-off their Premier League season this weekend when they play archrivals Leeds at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils, who finished 2nd last season, defeated Marcelo Bielsa’s side 6-2 last season. The Manchester outfit start the league on the strength of a 4-0 pre-season triumph over Everton, in which they welcomed back a number of first-team players, including star man Bruno Fernandes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be keen to get off to a strong start this season after earning only seven points from their opening six games last campaign.
Leeds, however, will be hoping to recover from a lackluster pre-season in which they failed to win a single game in four warm-up matches.

The latter duo are likely to form the club’s center-back combination against Leeds, with Raphael Varane, relegated to the bench at best after being forced to isolate after his arrival from Real Madrid. Ex-Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho is also unlikely to be pushed straight into the action after only seeing his new Manchester United teammates for the first time on Monday.
David de Gea is set to start in goal, with England goalie, Dean Henderson missing all of United’s pre-season owing to persistent tiredness caused by a Covid-19 virus last month, Jesse Lingard tested positive for Coronavirus, and Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles are injured.
However, Anthony Martial, who has been out with a knee injury since March, returned against Everton and maybe picked to lead the line, Edinson Cavani returned to training this week after a five-week vacation following Uruguay’s exit from Copa America. Due to Eric Bailly and Amad Diallo’s decision to represent their country, ivory coast in Tokyo 2020, both will most likely be unavailable against Leeds. Following his outstanding performance against Everton Nemanja Matic may be given the opportunity to push his claim for more regular minutes this campaign.

Kalvin Phillips started all 7 of England’s European championship fixtures this summer, but he has already been back in training for 2 weeks and will play against the Red Devils, Liam Cooper earned his first start of the summer in the 2-2 draw with Villarreal, but Stuart Dallas might be called upon to step in at left-back once more. Junior Firpo, who joined from Barcelona in a £12.8 million transfer to replace Ezgjan Alioski, missed Leeds’ final two warm-up games due to a minor injury. Diego Llorente is also a doubt for the match against Manchester United at the Theatre of Dreams, having left the pitch injured against Real Betis last month.
