Manchester United star becomes highest-scoring defender of all time for country
English premier league giant, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was in action yesterday for England in their 10th game of the Group I FIFA World Cup qualifiers against San Marino at the Stadio Olimpico San Marino.
The former Leicester City star retained his spot in his team’s starting XI having established himself as a key figure in the squad paraded by Gareth Southgate, following his outstanding performance for the team in their previous game where he was able to net a crucial goal.
Harry Maguire was at his best yet again in the show of the night as was able to silent all critics with another superb opener which inspired his team to remarkable ten goals to nil victory at full time, and as such secured an automatic spot in next year World Cup in Qatar.
The first half of the game was very dominating as the Three Lions put six goals past the host courtesy of an opener from Harry Maguire, an own-goal by Filippo Fabbri and four brilliant goals from Harry Kane to make it six goals to nil going into the half time break.
The visitor in the second half were more decisive as they put up some more dazzling skills and as such extended their lead with goals from Emile Smith-Rowe, Tyrone Mings, Tammy Abraham and Bukayo Saka to make it ten goals to nil at full time.
Harry Maguire with his only goal of the night has now taken his tally for the Three Lions to eight goals and as such becomes England’s highest-scoring defender of all time.
England with the win now sit at the top of the table with 26 goals in 10 games played and as such be hoping to keep the winning streaks going in their next fixture.
Harry Maguire will also be looking forward to continuing his impressive run of form for the team in their next game.
