MUN 1-0 CRY: Rangnick breaks German coaches Premier league record in United victory against Palace

The German trainer was drafted in to replace the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis till the end of the season. He led United to victory in his first game in charge against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon and, by so doing, achieved what no other German Manager has ever achieved before in the history of the Premier League.

A lot were said of the former Leipzig manager, as many believes some United players might struggle to perform effectively in his system. However, one United players who many tipped to shine under the new manager is Fred, and the Brazilian capped an impressive performance with the winning goal that Ronaldo would have been proud of.

United were going in the high spirit going into today’s encounter after they secured a morale boosting victory on Thursday in Michael Carrick’s last game in charge of the club. Today’s victory means United have now picked up seven points from a possible nine in tricky games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Crystal Palace, having lost a couple of games in their previous Premier League encounters before the Chelsea game.

As expected, United dominated possession but couldn’t carve out clean chances, with Cristiano Ronaldo being kept quiet by the disciplined Palace defense. However, just when it looks like United are going to drop another two points, Fred came up with a moment of brilliance as he curled home a beautiful shot from range.

The win means Ralf Rangnick is now the first German manager in the history of the Premier League to have won his first game in charge of a Premier League club. Before today, there have been just five German native to have managed in the Premier League before, and they are, Felix Magath, Jürgen Klopp, Jan Siewert, Daniel Farke and Thomas Tuchel but none of them secured a win in their first outing in charge of an English club.

Both Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel who have been so successful in England could only secure goalless draws in each of their first game in charge.
