Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City will be strong contenders in the European Champions League this season, and will give it all to win the UCL trophy. Besides, Chelsea are the defending champions and one of the best clubs in Europe at the moment. However, Manchester United has one key advantage over the other EPL teams competing in the European Champions League this season. What exactly is this advantage?
Manchester United has two players who have won the UCL more than once in their careers (more experience).
Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo are two Manchester United players who have won the UCL multiple times and whose experience with the competition far outweighs that of the others, and who will be invaluable in helping them mount a serious title challenge.
Cristiano Ronaldo has won the UCL a total of five times in his career. His first experience of winning the UCL trophy was with Manchester United in the 2007/2008 season when they defeated current defending champions Chelsea in a penalty shootout.
Raphael Varane is another Real Madrid player who won the UCL four times during Ronaldo’s spell at Madrid. Both players will strengthen an already strong and well-balanced Manchester United squad.
The only team that comes close to Manchester United on this is Chelsea with Mateo Kovacic.
Just like Raphael Varane, Mateo Kovacic has won the UCL four times in his career as well. He won three with Real Madrid and one with Chelsea last season. However, Kovacic is not a regular, and a tree cannot make a forest, so it’s unlikely that that he will be of real advantage for Chelsea like Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo will surely be.
Does this eventually mean that Manchester United will win the UCL at the end of the season? Only time will have a better answer. But be rest assured that having two of the most decorated players in Europe is surely an advantage that every team dreams of, and Manchester United surely have an edge with Varane and Cristiano in their fold.
Do you see Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo’s inclusion in the Manchester United squad as an advantage that gives them an upper hand ahead over the other EPL teams?
