Opinion: Chelsea Could Struggle This Season If Romelu Lukaku Is Sidelined With Injury
Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku has been a shining light at the London club. The Belgian, who rejoined the club for £97 million, has been able to deliver goals to aid the Blues to win matches. However, Thomas Tuchel could encounter a problem this season if he does not harness the potentials of Romelu Lukaku and other star players at his disposal.

Romelu Lukaku was signed back to Stamford Bridge to provide that cutting edge for the German tactician side, which struggled in front of goal last term. The German tactician relied on Jorginho’s penalties goals and sometimes goals from Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Ngolo Kante last season, as marquee signing Timo Werner struggled for consistency.
While Romelu Lukaku has been able to solve Chelsea’s biggest problem, the Belgian striker could also become the club and Thomas Tuchel’s biggest problem this season. The Belgian has featured for Chelsea on four occasions this season, scoring four goals. He is the only Chelsea player with a goal in the UEFA Champions League this season, after Chelsea’s 1-0 victory against Zenit St Petersburg at Stamford Bridge.

Due to massive reliance on Romelu Lukaku for goals at Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel could find himself struggling to manage Chelsea if Romelu Lukaku gets injured this season, which could terminate Chelsea’s dream of becoming Premier League champions. Nobody can do the job perfectly well than Romelu Lukaku.
Timo Werner cannot be trusted by Thomas Tuchel after failing to impress at Stamford Bridge last term. Kai Havertz playing as a false nine cannot help Chelsea. Hakim Ziyech, who is known as “Bruno Fernandez” at Chelsea, has struggled to impress, while Christian Pulisic, who is often used as a “super-sub” to get Chelsea on track on match days, is sidelined with injury.

No current Chelsea player can do what Romelu Lukaku is doing at Chelsea at the moment. Chelsea’s transfer market activity did not deal with this problem. Instead, the London club allowed Tammy Abraham to join Jose Mourinho’s Roma, while Michy Batshuayi-Atunga is currently on loan at Besiktas.
Thomas Tuchel may not be able to steady Chelsea if Romelu Lukaku is not available for selection on match days. This will hinder them from winning the Premier League or defend the Champions League.
