Opinion: Chelsea vs Southampton preview and prediction
Chelsea will look to put behind consecutive 1-0 defeats against Man City and Juventus as they host struggling Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
In what has been a successful reign so far for Thomas Tuchel, the Chelsea boss faces his most challenging time as a Manager as he looks to avoid a third consecutive defeat. Indeed, Chelsea lost to Man City 1-0 courtesy of a second half Gabriel Jesus strike and also lost to Juventus 1-0 at Turin courtesy of an early second half strike by Federico Chiesa. A defeat against Southampton will be the first time Thomas Tuchel suffers three (3) consecutive defeat in all competitions.
Southampton on the other hand are one of the few teams in the premier league still winless after six (6) games. Also, Southampton lost at home to Wolves in their last premier league fixture courtesy of a second half Raul Jimenez strike. However, Southampton can take confidence from the corresponding fixture last season as Jannik Vestergaard late strike earned Southampton 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge. They can also take confidence from the 1-1 and 0-0 draw against Man United and Man City respectively.
