Man United Reveals The Condition That Could Make Solskjaer Step Down Star Midfielder moves closer to Man Utd exit after new contract talks end

Jesse Lingard is edging closer to leaving Manchester United after contract negotiations broke down.

As his frustration with the club grows, the England forward appears increasingly set to leave United at the end of the season when his current term ends. Lingard is said to have little intention of continuing negotiations after his bemusement with United’s attitude to negotiations.

Lingard’s first offer from United earlier this season is understood to have been less than his current pay, and the 28-year-old is equally upset with his lack of playing time, despite pledges from manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer that he would play more regularly.

Lingard, who has been with United since he was seven and has made 218 first team appearances, is still yet to start a Premier League game this season, despite scoring twice and impressing when called upon.

His only start came in September’s Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham, and he was particularly puzzled as to why Daniel James started United’s opening two games of the season, against Leeds and Wolves, when the Wales winger was available for transfer and was later sold to Leeds two days after the Wolves match.

Lingard is reportedly considering asking to be loaned out for the remainder of the season, frustrated at not being given the meaningful opportunities he believes he was promised, despite the fact that so many of his teammates have struggled for form during United’s terrible start to the season.

Solskjaer’s team face Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday having picked up only four points from the last 18 available, putting the manager under increasing pressure.

They have lost six of their last twelve games overall. Lingard was brilliant on loan at West Ham in the second part of the season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 games, but he was happy to remain at Old Trafford this season with the hope of playing.

However, those expectations have not been realized, and Lingard is now contemplating his options, all the more so given his England ambitions. Barcelona, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid are all said to be interested in signing Lingard on a free transfer at the end of the season. In recent weeks, one of the player’s representatives is said to have met with a possible suitor in Spain.

West Ham were eager to bring Lingard back to the London Stadium in the summer and were one of six teams to make an enquiry about his services, but United made it plain the player was not for sale.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham, who are currently third in the Premier League and level on points with champions Manchester City, will seek to loan Lingard again in January in order to qualify for the Champions League, although United may be hesitant to allow the player to join a rival for a top four spot. West Ham now sit six points ahead of Manchester United.
