The group stage of the UEFA Champions League is over with all English clubs making it to the round of 16.

Here is a review of the fastest players and the players with the highest distance covered for each Premier League club in the competition this season. All stats are culled from the UEFA official website and are correct as at time of writing.

Liverpool

Fastest player: Virgil van Dijk (top speed – 35.8km/h)

Virgil van Dijk has been Liverpool’s fastest player in the UCL with a top speed of 35.8km/h. This is also the third fastest among all PL players in the competition.

The Dutchman is followed by Ibrahima Konaté (33.8km/h) and Alex Oxalade-Chamberlain (33.7km/h) with Mohamed Salah surprisingly missing out on the top 4.

Highest distance covered: Mohamed Salah (49.2km)

He may not be the fastest but Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool’s most hardworking player in the UCL this season with a total distance of 49.2km covered.

The Egyptian is followed by Joel Matip (46.5km) and Jordan Henderson (45.2km).

Manchester City

Fastest player: Ilkay Gundogan (top speed – 36.5km/h)

Not many saw this coming but Ilkay Gundogan is Manchester City’s fastest player in the UCL this season and second fastest among all EPL players in the competition with a top speed of 36.5km/h.

Kyle Walker is unsurprisingly City’s second fastest player in the group stage with a top speed of 34.9km/h while Aymeric Laporte is third with 34km/h.

Highest distance covered: Riyad Mahrez (62.9km)

Riyad Mahrez has run a whole lot for Pep Guardiola this season and has not only covered the most distance for City in the UCL but also among all PL players in the competition. The Algerian has run a total distance of 62.9km.

The next on the list is João Cancelo who has run a total distance of 53km and Rodri with 50.3km.

Manchester United

Fastest player: Harry Maguire (top speed – 35.3km/h)

Harry Maguire is, perhaps surprisingly, not only the fastest Manchester United player in the UCL so far this season, but also the fourth fastest of all EPL players in the competition.

The captain has clocked a top speed of 35.3km/h, which is comfortably ahead of others.

Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga are the next fastest United players in the UCL this season with both having a top speed of 34.5km/h. The shocking thing is that next is line is Eric Bailly with a top speed of 34.1km/h

Highest distance covered: Scott McTominay (42.7km)

Scott McTominay has been the most hardworking United player in the UCL after covering a distance of 42.7km in total.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (40km) and Cristiano Ronaldo (38.8km), at the age 37 years, are the players to complete the top 3.

Chelsea

Fastest player: Reece James (top speed – 36.6km/h)

Reece James is the fastest EPL player in the UCL this season with a top speed of 36.6km/h. This will come as a surprise to many.

The full back is followed by Timo Werner (34km/h) as expected and then Andreas Christensen (32.8km/h).

Highest distance covered: Jorginho (49.6km)

The third best player in the world, Jorginho, has been Chelsea’s most diligent runner with a total distance of 49.6km covered.

The Italian is followed by 31-year old captain, César Azpilicueta (47.5km) and Antonio Rüdiger (46.2km).
