Victor Oshimen ready to take Cristiano Ronaldo’s award in Serie A
The Italian Serie A will start this weekend with four games on Saturday and six games on Sunday.
Ahead of the new season, all eyes will be on Juventus if they can reclaim the Serie A title from Inter Milan.
However, other clubs such as Napoli, AS Roma, AC Milan, and Atalanta are expected to challenge for the title.
Another award that is up – is the highest goal scorer award in Italy. Cristiano Ronaldo won the award last season with twenty-nine goals and six assists.
The Portuguese striker is the favourite to win the award this year following the exit of Romelu Lukaku, although there are players expected to challenge him.
One of the players expected to challenge the Portuguese captain for the highest goal scorer award is Victor Oshimen.
Despite the big-money move, Oshimen failed to deliver for Napoli last season. He finished the season with ten goals, three assists in twenty-four league games.
However, his lack of form last season can be attributed to his adaptation period and injuries.
After scoring two goals and an assist in his first seven games, Victor Oshimen suffered a shoulder injury during the international break.
The injury kept him out of ten games and he contracted coronavirus which made him unavailable for a game.
After struggling to come back into the team, he suffered a head injury that kept him out of two games (against Benevento and Sassuolo).
The Nigerian striker returned to the team and helped them chase the Champions League spot.
In the last fourteen games of the 2020/2021 season, Oshimen showed that he has adapted to his new environment.
He scored seven goals, provided an assist, and his performance and impact on the team’s success are vital.
The former Wolfsburg striker ended the season on a high and continued his form in the preseason.
He scored four goals in Napoli’s first game against Bassa Anaunia.
Oshimen followed that up with a double in a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich. He scored a total of eight goals in five preseason games.
Although, it seems Ronaldo has no threat for the 2021/2022 Capocannoniere award but Victor Oshimen has shown that – with his form towards the end of last season and preseason he is ready to snatch the award from his football icon.
