LAGOS – Coach Peter Butler of Liberia’s Lone Stars has boasted that the country could surprise the Super Eagles when both sides meet in the match-day one of the impending 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The coach, who spoke to the local media after he released a 22-man squad that would face the three times African champions in the game, where he said that with the kind of players he called up, he was sure that they could shock Africa, starting with the qualifiers against the Super Eagles.
Butler named the 22-Man Squad to face Nigeria and the Central African Republic in next week’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in a brief ceremony in Monrovia at the weekend, as reported by Monrovia Times.
The coach gave call-ups to five new faces but kept faith in several old names. The Lone Star Coach invited 15 overseas players and seven local players.
Addressing the press when he released his Squad, Coach Butler said he called up five new faces to strengthen the Lone Star after some key players asked to be excused from the squad because of document issues and fitness issues.
He told the media that Liberia could surprise Africa with the team he’s putting together for the qualifiers.
“We can surprise Africa with the players we are putting together and we are starting with a trip to Nigeria where we could show what we have here,” he said.
