W’Cup Qualifier: We Can Shock Super Eagles, Liberia Coach Boasts

LAGOS – Coach Peter Butler of Libe­ria’s Lone Stars has boast­ed that the country could surprise the Super Eagles when both sides meet in the match-day one of the impending 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the Teslim Ba­logun Stadium in Lagos.

The coach, who spoke to the local media after he re­leased a 22-man squad that would face the three times African champions in the game, where he said that with the kind of players he called up, he was sure that they could shock Africa, starting with the qualifiers against the Super Eagles.

Butler named the 22-Man Squad to face Nigeria and the Central African Re­public in next week’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in a brief ceremony in Monro­via at the weekend, as re­ported by Monrovia Times.

The coach gave call-ups to five new faces but kept faith in several old names. The Lone Star Coach invit­ed 15 overseas players and seven local players.

Addressing the press when he released his Squad, Coach Butler said he called up five new fac­es to strengthen the Lone Star after some key players asked to be excused from the squad because of doc­ument issues and fitness issues.

He told the media that Li­beria could surprise Africa with the team he’s putting together for the qualifiers.

“We can surprise Afri­ca with the players we are putting together and we are starting with a trip to Nige­ria where we could show what we have here,” he said.
