Why 5 Man Utd stars may be suspended for a Premier League Game This Year

Five Manchester United players are on the verge of being given a one match suspension each in the Premier League this year. This is due to the number of yellow cards they have received in the Premier League this season.

Recall that cards are given for breakage of rules in the Premier League. This season, Manchester United as a team have received 35 yellow cards, the 5th highest of any team this season.

According to the Premier League’s rules on yellow cards and suspensions, when a player has received 5 yellow cards before the turn of the year in any Premier League season, such player will be suspended for a match.

As a result, 5 Manchester United players are on the verge of suspension if they manage to receive their fifth yellow card this season. Although the rule will not be applicable if they manage to avoid another yellow card this year.

This means that if they get their fifth yellow card in January 2022, they will not be suspended. However, players who go on to receive 10 yellow cards before match day 32 will serve a two-game suspension.

But as we are still in December, with games coming thick and fast, we can’t bet on some of these players not earning another booking. Now, the question is who are the five players on the verge of suspension?

Below are the five Manchester United players who could be suspended for a Premier League game this year.

5. Scott Mctominay.

Mctominay is earning a reputation for himself as a dirty player in the Premier League. Already, he has set a Premier League record for the fastest yellow card received in a Premier League match in history. This season, he is one yellow card always from the 5 that would see him get suspended for a match this year.

Paul Pogba.

Although Paul Pogba is currently injured, he ha earned 4 yellow cards before his injury. As he is not expected to play again this year, he may not need to worry about being suspended when he earns his fifth yellow card next year.

Fred is another Manchester United who is a yellow card away from a one game ban this year. As he has been a regular starter, he is at risk of suspension should he get another yellow card.

Luke Shaw.

The left-back is another Red Devils player who has got four yellow cards this season. As he is also nursing injury and the form of Alex Telles, he may avoid suspension by not picking up another yellow card before 2022.

Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United player of the Year Bruno Fernandes is the fight player in this article who has four yellow cards so far. If he picks up another yellow card before January, he will be suspended for a game this year.
