Why Mendy might not win the EPL Golden Glove this season despite Chelsea’s strong defense.
Edouard Mendy has been phenomenal for Chelsea in the last year following his transfer move from Rennes last summer. The Senegalese goalkeeper was outstanding for the Blues in their run to the Champions League triumph last season, and was also impressive in the Premier League as he kept 16 clean sheets in 31 games to help them finish 4th on the table conceding just 25 goals in the process.
Nonetheless, the former Rennes goalkeeper has continued to impress between the sticks for Chelsea this season by keeping 3 clean sheets in 6 league games for the London club. However, he has failed to keep a clean sheet in his last 3 games in all competitions for the Blues, and Ederson(5) and Alisson(4) have surpassed him in the race to win this year’s EPL Golden Glove.
But Chelsea fans might not be worried about Mendy’s chance of winning the award given their defense is undoubtedly one of the strongest in the league, and he(Mendy) still has enough time to challenge them for the award as the season is still young.Mendy will certainly join his national team at the African Cup of Nations next year.
But due to the African Cup Of Nations tournament that will take place from January next year, Mendy might fail to win the award this season as he will certainly join his national team at the African Cup of Nations which will commence on January 9 2022 and lasts till February 6. This means that Mendy is likely to miss 3 league games(Man City, Tottenham, and Brighton) if his national team progresses to the finals.Mendy has already missed one league game this season through injury, and he might miss three more in January.
And given Mendy has already missed 1 game this season through injury, missing another 3 or 4 games this season would limit his chance of challenging for the golden give this season.

Kepa is performed well last month in the absence of Mandy, and he will likely have more chance to impress in January when Mendy joins his national team at AFCON.
